“I wish I could, but I don’t want to.” – Phoebe Buffay

(Friends, Season 1… yes, that show from a million years ago)
Every now and then, a sitcom line lingers—because it says something real.
At Ever Human Therapy, we think a lot about boundaries: what they mean, how they shift over time, and how powerful they can be when we actually honor them. And while Phoebe’s line might sound flippant, there’s something refreshing about the honesty of it.
Sometimes, you don’t want to. And that’s reason enough.
-Boundaries keep us grounded.
-Self-care doesn’t need permission slips.
-And a little humor? Always welcome.
We’re big believers that mental health work doesn’t have to feel heavy all the time. In fact, moments of levity often create the safety we need to go deeper. So whether it’s a ‘90s punchline or a quiet “no thanks” on a busy day, there’s value in speaking what’s true for you.
At EHT we support therapists and clients in finding those truths—with a bit of room for humor along the way.
