Celebrating Choice—Whether It’s Champagne or Club Soda

Saying “I don’t eat dairy” or “I’m vegetarian” rarely sparks discomfort. But say “I’m not drinking tonight”—and suddenly, the room shifts. There’s tension. Curiosity. Sometimes, judgment.
Alcohol isn’t just a beverage—it’s often treated like a social contract. A signal that you’re open, fun, relaxed. Choosing not to drink can feel like you're breaking that script, even when it’s a thoughtful or health-driven decision.
But why should this choice carry so much weight?
We normalize preferences around food, sleep routines, or fitness habits. We should offer the same acceptance around someone’s relationship with alcohol—or any behavior. These are choices, not identities. They don’t require group consensus or lifelong commitment to be valid.
Judgment around these choices often comes with a quiet withdrawal of respect—like someone’s values or character are suddenly up for debate. But honoring someone’s autonomy, even when it differs from our own, is one of the clearest ways we can affirm their humanity.
At Ever Human Therapy, we create safe, respectful, and nonjudgmental spaces for people to explore the full spectrum of their experiences—relationships, identities, behaviors, values, and choices. Whether long-held or newly shifting, every part of someone’s story deserves to be met with curiosity and care.
Therapy isn’t about labeling or fixing—it’s about slowing down enough to listen, reflect, and choose more intentionally.
-Personal preference.
-Full humanity.
-Ever Human.
