Finding Fulfillment in Work: Why Values Matter

Lately, I’ve been hearing a lot of conversations about what work is really supposed to feel like. People are asking: Are we allowed to believe we deserve work that feels good?
There’s still this old mindset lingering—the idea that if work isn’t a struggle, it isn’t “real” hard work. I’ll be honest, there was a time I believed that too. I thought if it wasn’t miserable, it didn’t count. But over time, I’ve been lucky enough to find opportunities where hard work feels good—because my values align with what I’m doing.
What keeps coming up in these conversations is the power of values alignment. When you believe in what you’re working toward, the effort feels worthwhile and even energizing. But when there’s a disconnect, work can feel exhausting and depleting.
It’s a reminder of what research shows: after meeting basic needs, money alone doesn’t create fulfillment—it’s purpose and values that truly drive us.
I’m grateful to be part of Ever Human Therapy, where I get to work hard for an organization that aligns with my values. And for anyone wrestling with these questions or wanting to make a change, we’re here to support you—whether through mental health counseling or professional coaching. If you're looking to create a more meaningful career path, you don’t have to do it alone.
