How We Hire Is How We Care

If you follow college sports, you’ve probably noticed how much attention the NCAA transfer portal – a system that manages student athlete transfers between NCAA schools – has brought to communication and transparency. Athletes want to know where they stand. Coaches are expected to be clear. When communication goes quiet or feels vague, it doesn’t just frustrate people – it erodes trust.

Hiring isn’t all that different.

For clinicians, transitions are part of the work. We support clients through endings, schedule changes, handoffs, and shifts in care every day. We know those moments can stir uncertainty, loss, and anxiety – even when the change is necessary or ultimately positive.

The hiring process asks clinicians to navigate a similar kind of transition. There’s uncertainty, real power dynamics, and often a lot at stake professionally. When timelines are unclear or follow-up is inconsistent, it can create unnecessary stress and self-doubt – even when no harm is intended.

From a trauma-informed lens, transparent hiring practices matter. That means:

  • clear communication about where candidates are in the process

  • timely follow-up, even when the answer is “not right now”

  • predictability in systems that already hold a lot of power

Transparency doesn’t guarantee outcomes – in sports, in therapy, or in hiring – but it does help people stay grounded, oriented, and respected during change.

At Ever Human Therapy, we see hiring as part of care. We’re committed to treating candidates with the same thoughtfulness and respect we bring to clinical transitions every day.

How we handle transitions matters.

How we hire is part of how we care.
